Interivew: BBT's Jim Parsons Tells The Secrets Of Sheldon

By Quendrith Johnson
Fancast.com

parsons1.jpg

Jim Parsons plays ultra-geek Sheldon to Johnny Galecki's arch-nerd Leonard on the CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory. In real life, the native Texan is almost nothing like the nit-picky repressed genius he plays on TV. Except for a few things. He has insanely perfect posture, everything in his dressing room on Warner Brothers’ stage 25 is laid out in its logical order, and Parsons, 35, admits to speaking a little Klingon. When he played "Tim," a Medieval Times knight, in the Zach Braff dramedy "Garden State" Parsons actually clarified the definition of an obscure Klingon phrase: "This one means kill Kirk; and also, Hallelujah -- depending on the context." You might have seen him on "Judging Amy" or the series "Ed," but you won't forget him in "Big Bang Theory." Named after the expanding universe theory, BBT is the newest Geek Chic show brought to you by Chuck Lorre ("Roseanne," "Two and a Half Men"). As we caught up with him, Parson was passing the time between scenes by watching The View, sipping a Mountain Dew, and ignoring a script on the coffee table.

Which episode is this (script on the table)?
This is the second to last one. It's called the Peanut Reaction. It has to with the fact that Wolowitz has a peanut allergy. His peanut allergy is utilized in the preparation of Lenard's surprise party. Which happens really early on in the episode, the surprise party, so I assume it is not a plot point one shouldn't reveal.

How do you keep all of these plot points to yourself?
It's not that hard, I am so concerned with learning the lines. I'm trying so hard to get them straight. I sometimes don't even have a cogent train of thought on what the plot of an episode because of the lines. Sometimes you are riding the train through it. Hopefully I am able to act when I am repeating them.

Recap: Battlestar Galactica

By Jonathan Weischsel
Fancast.com

bg.jpg

The latest episode of Battlestar Galactica starts right where the last episode left off. It is so rare for a modern serial to do this. Usually when they end on a cliffhanger, they open the next episode with something else and make you wait to see how the cliffhanger is resolved, but not Battlestar Galactica!

Last episode ended with Helo mutinying against Starbuck. Well, Starbuck runs off and tries to make the jump anyway. Athena stops Starbuck by putting her in a headlock. Helo briefly takes control, but Sam pulls out a gun and holds it on everybody. He’s sticking up for his wife. I wonder why the other mutineers didn’t see that one coming. Helo orders Gaeta to make the jump. Sam shoots Gaeta in the leg. This ends the mutiny. Starbuck even fixes up Gaeta’s leg for him.

Starbuck decides that Helo was right. She has no right to put the Demetrius and its crew at risk. That is why she will take a shuttle. Sam of course volunteers to come with her. She recruits Athena, because Athena understands the cylons. The cylon hating Seelix volunteers to come along as well. Helo says the Demetrius can wait 15 hours and 7 minutes before it has to jump.

News: David Archuleta's Dad Banned From 'American Idol' Backstage

DA.jpg

Big news out of American Idol land: David Archuleta's father has been banned from rehearsals. There had been rumors all season of Jeff Archuleta's meddling and pushing. He was also said to be an intense personality and a Type A stage parent, having groomed his talented child for this moment on America's top-rated talent competition. Now comes word the elder Archuleta was told last week that he can no longer help his 17-year-old son David rehearse.

TMZ broke that story last Friday, and other outlets have since followed up. According to the AP, "Jeff Archuleta's intense backstage involvement had become a source of concern for the series. But it was a lyric change on Tuesday's show that pushed producers to act. Despite a warning, Jeff Archuleta insisted on altering "Stand by Me," one of two songs his son sang on the show Tuesday." Apparently he added a verse from Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls," whichincurred additional costs for the show. He was ousted after that.

TV's Top 20 All-Time Mothers (And Our Favorite Quotes From Them)

By Jen Smith
Fancast.com

brady.jpg

When I was a little girl, my mom would force me onto the couch and make me and my brother and sister watch rerun of The Waltons. This was supposed to teach us how a “real family” was supposed to act. I highly doubted it at the time, and I still doubt it. To me, a real family acted more like the Bundys. As I grew up, I developed more and more of an obsession with TV and bonded with the women I refer to as my “TV moms.” Haven’t you ever watched an episode of Gilmore Girls and wished you were BFF with your mom? Or The Addams Family and wished your mom had encouraged you to play with your food? Well, even if you haven’t, we can all appreciate our surrogate small screen mamas.

In honor of Mother’s Day, we have compiled a list of the top 20 TV moms of all time. So let’s take a moment and reminisce over our favorite quotes from them, and maybe this will inspire you think about your own flesh-and-blood mom and the crazy things she may have said over the years.

1. Carol Brady (Florence Henderson) - The Brady Bunch
“Six kids and no noise. That’s what’s the matter with that. I’ve never heard such a loud silence.”

2. Marion Cunningham (Marion Ross) – Happy Days
“Oh Howard can you belive it, our babies having a baby, and one day, that baby will have a baby, and that baby will have a baby, but of course we'll be dead."

3. June Cleaver (Barbara Billingsley) - Leave It To Beaver
“Do you think all parents have this much trouble?”

4. Marge Simpson (Julie Kavner) - The Simpsons
“This family has had it's differences and we've squabbled, but we've never had knife fights before.”

5. Claire Huxtable (Phylicia Rashad) – The Cosby Show
“New rule in this house starting now! Nobody's to touch anybody anywhere with anything for the rest of their lives!

6. Olivia Walton (Michael Learned) – The Waltons
“If John doesn't get home soon with money, all we'll have for Christmas dinner is my applesauce cake. We won't even have that if I don't get a move on.”

7. Roseanne Connor (Roseanne Barr) - Roseanne
“The only thing I've ever wanted for my kids is that they're happy... and that they're out of the house. And I tell you what-- happy ain't even that important.”

8. Morticia Addams (Carolyn Jones) – The Addams Family
“I'm just like any modern woman trying to have it all. Loving husband, a family. It's just, I wish I had more time to seek out the dark forces and join their hellish crusade.”

9. Wilma Flintstone (Jean Vander Pyl) – The Flintstones
“I work hard all day, too, and what do I get? A lot of yak from you. You at least get out everyday, see things, talk to people. I never get out of this cave.”

10. Peggy Bundy (Katy Sagal) – Married With Children
“Shut up Bud! Oprah's doing a show about Mothers who don't pay attention to their sons.”

Serena's admission on this week's Gossip Girl was shocking, but she only had to tell Blair. What happens when Nate and Chuck start to get concerned? As B puts it "you can tell us anything, we're the non-judging Breakfast Club." Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf, non-judging? In what world?! Watch the preview clip from Monday's upcoming episode here.

Cute: Bret Harrison Of Reaper

Bret Harrison

TV stars sometimes have a rough time on special family holidays, because they are often shooting long hours on location and can't get back home in time to do that special Mother's Day dinner with Mom.

Regardless, many stars opt to do something special, even with thousands of miles separating them from their families, like Bret Harrison from Reaper, who let us in on his Mum's Day plans: "This is gonna sound so bad! I'm going to New Orleans. We just wrapped Reaper on Tuesday and came back to LA. Taking off again to New Orleans. But I plan on sending her the biggest bouquet of flowers she's ever seen!" Awww, our hearts just melted a little, Bret.

Fancast Interview: Marion Ross Talks Motherhood, Henry Winkler, And More!

Blog-Marion-Ros.jpg

Tonight Marion Ross will be featured in ABC’s special “TV’s All-Time Funniest,” for her portrayal of the lovable Mrs. Cunningham on Happy Days. So what makes this iconic actress’ days happy now? Fancast caught up with her to find out.

This special is about celebrating you as a TV mom, but as a mom yourself what are you doing this year for Mother’s Day?
My children are all coming and we’re going to have game day, and we have ping pong, and I have a tennis court, and I’m such a spoiled brat, I’ve got everything, you know, so everybody wants to come. Actually I’m wearing a necklace that I got last year on Mother’s Day because Gavin McLeod from The Love Boat said we want you and Florence (Henderson) to come to the helm of The Princess Cruise Line and christen the ship on Mothers Day in Athens!

What is it about your character Mrs. C that you think made her such a great TV mom?

I was so kind to Howard, I liked that about her, she would prefer to protect Howard from the children, so that they would treat him nicely, and I was watching it the other night on TV when he comes through the door and I went “oh hello Howard,” and I kissed him and I thought ‘oh, well that’s nice.’ I don’t like to see things where the husband is always put down.

Recap: 30 Rock (Season Finale)

Emily Hochberg
Fancast.com

30rock.jpg

It’s already that time of year again. It’s time for the season finales when we say goodbye to our beloved TV shows for thre lonely months. There is an upside however. Things happen! Thursday night’s 30 Rock finale included political fallout, pregnancy, porn, pages and “gay bombs.” Okay, so that last one didn’t stick with the alliteration I was going for but it got your attention didn’t it?

We start with Jack as the new department head for the war on homeland security, poor people, and weather crisis management. Liz urges Jack to come back, but he won’t budge until Don Geiss wakes from his coma to say “Jacky boy, you’re the new CEO of GE.” Liz buries her sorrows in Mexican cheese puffs and suddenly realizes she hasn’t felt emotions like this and ate a whole bag of possibly illegal cheese curls since her last “woman’s time.” Which was when exactly? Can you feel the scandal? Liz Lemon is pregnant! Nothing says season finale like unplanned pregnancy.

Or sabotage! While Liz panics over her womb, Kenneth the Page plans to apply to work at the NBC Summer Olympics in Beijing, but soon learns his rival Page tricked him on the due date and has less than a day to complete the application.

Recap: The Office ("Job Fair")

By Dianne Brooks
Fancast.com

theoffice.jpg

Welcome back to the only 30 minutes out of the day anyone looks forward to being back in The Office. In this latest episode, the second to the last of this season (sad face), Michael (Steve Carell) swaggers into the office and informs Darryl (Craig Robinson), Oscar (Oscar Nunez) and “eye candy” Pam (Jenna Fischer) that they will be attending the job fair at the local high school. Jim Halpert* (John Krasinksi), who has been put on probation by Ryan (B.J. Novak) figures he better get out and hustle some clients so he joins Kevin (Brian Baumgartner) and Andy (Ed Helms) for some golf with Phil. Phil is so bad that even Jim has to work really hard to not beat him. Andy’s got blisters all over his hands from hitting hundreds of balls the night before leading to lots of slapsticky business - golf cart wipe out is particularly hilarious. At the fair in the high school gym Pam reminisces about faking PMS to get out of class. Later after a visit to the art room she ponders the road not taken. This leads her to discuss graphic design options with one of the other job fair employers. Back at the office those left behind decide to take off since Michael’s not around. Dwight (Rainn Wilson) threatens to tell on them and does so after everyone except, guess who - Angela (Angela Kinsey), ditches. Dwight and Angela, the tension is palpable, wait until 5 on the dot to finally leave. Jim closes the deal with Phil by basically blocking his car until he agrees to buy Dunder Mifflin’s paper. After Michael fails to woo back the only kid who seemed the least bit interested in their booth, he gets all abusive on the mike - insulting the likes of H and R Block and the Military. Pam greets Jim back at the office with a jump on him kiss that seems to go on forever.

Recap: Grey's Anatomy ("The Becoming")

By Dianne Brooks
Fancast.com

greys.jpg

The writers of Grey's Anatomy describe this latest episode as relationships at work and “becoming” who we really want to be. We open as we did last week with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and her therapist (Amy Madigan). This time Meredith is asking for some “tools” so that she can stop thinking about kissing Derek (Patrick Dempsey) when she’s injecting a virus into her patients’ heads to kill their inoperable brain tumors. The latest doomed guinea pig is a gay Afghan war Vet, who thought he could keep his private life and his work life separate. Then he fell in love with someone at work.

In the meantime naked Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) and naked Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) are fooling around in his office when he gets the word that no nurses will work with him. Big problem since he’s a surgeon. It’s because he’s a “whore” and “nasty” as Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) puts it in her oh so sassy way. When a lawsuit by the nurses seems imminent, who should show up to negotiate but the Chief’s (James Pickens, Jr.) ex. The fix: every employee who is or has had relations with another employee must regis-ter said event. George gets tapped as the enforcer since the Chief wants to prove he’s delegating. Although the registration causes all sorts of embarrassment (Alex forgets he slept with Lexie; Rose and Derek haven’t done it “yet”; Dr. Bailey is purposely NOT given any paperwork) the Chief winds up in bed with his ex-wife.

Recap: Lost

Jonathan Weichsel
Fancast.com

lost.jpg

Wow! OK, it seems that there is more to John Locke than we suspected. From birth he has been groomed… no, not quite groomed, but watched with interest, by the island. But, I’m getting ahead of myself.

The latest Lost episode opens with a shot of a record player playing Buddy Holly. Aside from being yet another reminder that someone at Lost has impeccable taste in pop, it is a call back to the season 2 opener. The big difference is that this time there is no anachronism. We are in the lat 50’s. This is an odd way to start an episode that will have such a strange instance of time travel. First we see a record player, and think it is the late 70’s, when in fact it is 2004. Now, we see a record player, and assume it is 2004, but it is the late 50’s. Disorienting, right?

A teenage girl, Emily, is getting ready to go out with a man twice her age. While running from her justifiably upset mother, she is hit by a car. In the hospital she says she is pregnant. A baby is born. She says to call it John. Her last name happens to be Locke.

News: Lost Adding Extra Hours

Blog-Lost-Finale.jpg

Good news for Lost fans: the hit ABC show is adding 2 more hours to it's 2009/2010 seasons, reports The Hollywood Reporter. In order to compensate for this year's strike-halted season (in which 3 hours' worth of programming was lost) the drama will also be tacking on an additional hour to part two of it's May 29th season finale. When asked whether of not the show would go beyond it's current 34-remaining episode order, co-creator Damon Lindelof said "(Executive producer) Carlton Cuse and I worked so hard to get the show to end that I think to suddenly say, 'Oh, I think we got another season in us' would be a betrayal to everybody involved in the show -- but most of all the audience, It's better to retire your number at the top of your game." As for this year's season finale, Lindelof guaranteed it wouldn't be nearly as "tricky" as last year's surprise flash forward. "Hopefully, this year it's a little bit more of a straightforward action-adventure narrative. But the ending of the episode will hopefully engage and intrigue people looking forward to the next season of the show."

Speaking of engaging and intriguing, check out this video interview with Tania Raymonde (aka Alex) on the recent death of her character.

Interview: Jason Castro, Booted Idol, Talks Simon & Forgotten Lyrics

By Victor Balta
Eye On Idol
Comcast.net

Blog-American-Idol-Jason-Castro.jpg

Love him or not, Jason Castro was one of the most talked about contestants “American Idol” has seen in a while. He was goofy, he was fun to watch, you never knew what he was going to do or say, and he turned in some truly memorable performances. That is a rare combination in an “Idol” contestant and the show will be a little less exciting with him gone. Jason got on the line with reporters on Thursday and addressed so many of the hot topics that have surrounded him, including whether he forgot his lyrics on purpose, what he thought about Paula Abdul’s now famous mistake, and whether he’d truly never heard of the musical, “Cats.”

This one is a little longer than usual, but I wanted to give the Jason fans a bit more from their fave, and I think he had a lot of very interesting things to say.

On Simon’s suggestion in an interview that Jason forgot his lyrics on purpose…
Yeah, somebody told me that earlier. I definitely did not do that on purpose. I couldn’t believe I forgot such a popular line, you know, something that’s, like, written on your soul. Somehow, it slipped my mind. But I definitely didn’t do that on purpose.

On whether he still wanted to win…
As of yesterday I wanted to win and the day before. I think when it came down to it, it was just my inexperience. And once we doubled up on songs I wasn’t really being able to focus on both of my songs. My mind was just split and I just couldn’t deliver either or.

Exclusive Mother's Day Interview: Kathy Najimy Talks Mothers Day & King Of The Hill

050808-kathy.jpg

Oh, what's wrong with us that Mother's Day made us think of Peggy Hill? Not a dang thing! She's one of the funniest TV moms of our time. But Peggy would not be what she is - certainly she wouldn't sound the same -- without one of the most delightful real life moms in our time, Kathy Najimy. Despite nursing a cold, the wonderful actress who provides the voice of Peggy Hill, spoke to us about King of the Hill , her favorite TV moms, her own Mothers Day plans, and of course more King of the Hill. [Watch full episodes of King of the Hill on Fancast]

Who is Peggy Hill's top TV mom?
Oh, Peggy Hill. She would pick Peggy Hill as the top TV mom of all time. Oh, Peggy has a very strong parental code and is very, very proud of it, not only will she parent her kids, but she’ll parent yours as well. In fact, I think it’s a great subject for a weekly musings column in the Arlen Paper, but if you have any child-rearing problems at all, or even want to know how to make spaghetti and – spaPeggy and meatballs – she will advise you and stand by it and then bask in the glow of her opinion for quite a few hours. She’s a great mother, she thinks. I’m not saying I do, but she does. Hands down, she thinks she’s the best mother.

What are your Mother's Day plans?

You know, they never tell me. … celebrating family around here. We never the type that says, “Oh, this year, my birthday is going to be low key.” We’ve never had a low key anything. There’s always some big party, and there’s some big performance. People show up singing. There are videos and mariachis and who the heck knows, but I know I do get a massage, which I insist on. The rest of the day is my husband and my daughter take me from thing to thing. It’s always some wonderful surprise. The only bummer about that is then it really puts the pressure on because Father’s Day comes after Mother’s Day. So, if he does something really fantastic, I have to out-fantastic him.

I’ll never forget the top 4 results show my year, nor will most of the people who tuned in for that first year. It was the biggest shock of the season by far. Tamyra Grey, was voted off. Who? What? When? Why? And How? Who knows? The nation was shocked by what was as momentous and event as watching Muhammad Ali go down in a fight, as Paula would put it only moments after the announcement. I remember being shocked and gripping Kelly’s hand in amazement. There was a chorus of boo’s from the audience, and looks of incredulity from the judges. Even Tamyra was unable to totally hide her shock. For the briefest of moments it registered on her face for 30 million people to see, and then just as quickly as it came, it left , and was replaced by her gracious smile. She mouthed ‘it’s ok, it’s ok’ as the crowd jeered the decision. Paula’s mouth was agape, and poor Nikki must have felt like she was instantly the most hated person in America. Now that’s a strong statement, I know, and I can’t speak for her…but I know that in her position, I would have felt that way. Nikki narrowly avoided the boot many times and was (only in circumstance, not in talent) much like this year’s Syesha. Finding herself in the bottom two multiple times and escaping, must have been taxing enough for Nikki, and she did cry on almost every occasion…but beating out someone who had the potential to go all the way to the top, and whom many thought would give Kelly a real run for her money…must have been excruciating. How would you like to be booed, because you were safe.
