In a word- uncomfortable. Everything seemed over the top. He is a wonderful singer, and has a sassy attitude that when put on a leash, as it were, makes for great television. I just think that he took a song by a beloved American icon and turned it into a really bad cabaret act. Then starts a cat fight with Simon.
Another important thing to remember: Always know your audience. People in the heartland primarily watch this show. Take a non-derogatory look at Danny, and also take a non-derogatory look at the Mid-West. Finish that line of thought. I would, but no doubt it would be misconstrued and used against me. I don’t like bear traps much less sticking my face into a loaded one.

Funny enough I went to High School with a bunch of his cousins. My first impression is really good karaoke. He’s missing notes on the end’s of phrases. He can sing, but I want the song to take off. These rounds are about making an impression, and impact. The fact that it’s the 60’s does not help. The whole how seems to be struggling due to the fact that it’s the 60s.
I love Simon. He’s right. It’s about so much more than singing, especially now. I like the way that Luke handled it. He was confident without being cocky. I think that he fought valiantly against a very accurate assessment by Simon, and did the best damage control job I’ve seen in a while.
I’m a little disappointed in the show so far. We were lead to believe, by Hollywood week, that this was the best 24 ever. It seems like we have been mislead so far. It could be the fact that it’s mostly ballads, or that it’s sleepy arrangements of 60s music, or the fact that I haven’t had my tea yet.

Garret Haley-

Don’t mean that in a nasty way either. He’s got great potential, which he showed on the last bit of the song. But we’re not here to see potential. We’re here to see greatness.
I think he’ll make it, through. It’s hard to be relevant when you’re singing sleepy arrangements of 60s songs. A seasoned professional could take that song and make it a smash, but we’re not dealing with seasoned professionals, we’re dealing with great singers, out of nowhere. That’s AI, and it’s a double-edged sword.

Another guy who didn’t get a lot of camera time. He’s got a good look and seems like a nice guy. Oh thank goodness, a happy mid-tempo song. A great performance already. Memorable, the girls will love it, he looks happy, and comfortable. A nice pickup to the show. Randy said it was alright? It was (besides David) the only other performance that was wonderful. Darn it, Simon and I keep saying that same things. I have to step up my game. Well, he’s going through.
Michael Johns-
Well I can tell you this before they even start, they’re not going to end the show on a bad note. We know Michael Johns can sing. ‘Light My Fire’, good performance, check that a very good performance. He’s interesting to watch. He’s a little in his head, but who wouldn’t be…especially when they haven’t been up there before. Great style, and no surprise a great review from the judges.
The first night of guys was a mixed bag. I think the choice to do 60s songs was a huge weight on the whole show, but you have to start somewhere. The J-Lo catalogue isn’t that deep.
I have hope for the guys, but I want to be wowed next time.

I don't think tea, beer or hard liquor will help you find the wow with this group but I am hopeful that better performances and the "wow" are coming with improved themes.

Overall, I enjoyed the guys. A few were weak but still ok, while most were good and I want to hear them again. I have to agree with Joyce, there wasn't a 'wow' for me either.
