Recap: Desperate Housewives

It’s the third new post strike episode on Wisteria Lane and our dearly departed narrator Mary Alice tells us tonight's Desperate Housewives is about breaking the rules. Lynette fears her husband Tom is responsible for a fire in Rick’s restaurant; Rick has a thing for Lynette. Tom did throw a brick through Rick’s window, and so in his loving wife’s mind, he must be guilty. Needless to say, Tom isn’t a fan of Rick, but denies any wrong doing. Meanwhile, Dylan is pulled over for speeding. Not just by any cop, but by guest star Gary Cole! He cites her and admires her necklace. First red flag. He let’s her go and retreats to admire a newspaper clipping of Dylan, her face circled in red pen. Second, literal, red flag. Across town Bree is packing to leave Susan’s where she and Orson were squatting. Susan’s pregnancy hormones are in overdrive and Bree offers some advice. When any unnecessary emotion comes on, pack it away in an empty metaphorical box and pack the box into an empty metaphorical closet. This explains a lot. Carlos is adjusting to life as a blind man and brings home Roxy, a Seeing Eye dog. While he hopes Roxy will make everyday life easier, Gabrielle hopes she’ll help fetch the remote and teach Carlos to pee like a girl. Instead, Roxy only wants Gabrielle’s place in bed.

After Bree leaves Susan’s, Mike returns home and Julie tells him how Orson said “I’m sorry. I ran over Mike” while sleepwalking. Someone should lay off the Ambien. But maybe sleep honesty is the best policy. Mike confronts Orson who shifts awkwardly and stalls. He looks like he just might cry. Then, wait for it – he does! Orson doesn’t hide it; he confesses all. Now, most people might need oh, I don’t know, a day or two to get over an intentional hit and run, but not Mike. He only needs about 15 minutes. Susan, on the other hand, storms over to Bree and Orson’s in a rage filled tirade. Following the speeding incident, Dylan is followed into the park by Gary Cole, who introduces himself as Wayne Davis. Oh yeah, guess what, he’s her biological father. Dylan agrees to coffee but is wary; this is the man who beat up her mom. He doesn’t deny it. His likeability factor is soaring. Sensing this, Wayne gets up to go, but Dylan wants to talk, saying she’ll keep this new “friendship” a secret. A smirk breaks across Wayne’s face. Creepy, creepy, red flag.

Unable to sleep thanks to Roxy, Gabrielle takes the dog back. She lets the trainers know they’ve replaced her with a Seeing Eye monkey who can call 911 and toast bagels. She dashes home, only to be followed by Roxy and a waiting Carlos. Back at Lynette and Tom’s Pizza Place, Rick comes by to accuse Tom of arson. He found a Scavo’s Restaurant matchbook at his torched back door and the two duke it out until the cops come. Lynette perjures herself by aligning with Tom’s alibi which may or may not be true, though she believes he did it. On the flip side, Tom thinks Lynette had the affair with Rick. The rift prompts her twins to come into her room that night to confess to setting the fire in hopes of making their parents happy. What cute little pyros. While Susan digests what happened between Mike and Orson, Mike urges her to forgive; he has. Inspired, Susan seeks out Bree, asking for patience, only to see Bree has none. Orson walks out, his emotional and physical suitcases all packed up. As Mary Alice returns to talk of broken rules, Dylan lies to her mom to meet Wayne, and Gabrielle, Carlos and Roxy all play nice in bed. Bree throws away pictures of Orson, and Orson cries, again.
