This is the part of the season when the remaining three contestants get to go home for a nice visit. I presume we’ll get to see all the rabid hometown fans tomorrow during the insanely long elimination show, because they didn’t show much of it tonight. We did, however, get to meet Mayor McCheese as he told little David Archuleta what Paula’s song choice for him was. Tonight, the contestants sang a song the judges chose, a song they chose, and a song the producers chose. Let’s find out how that cookie crumbled.
Judges’ Choice
David Archuleta: "And So it Goes" by Billy Joel
I have nothing to say about this besides boring, boring, boring. It’s sung well (although, it’s hard to compare anyone to Billy Joel) but it’s so blasé. Randy wanted to see him play the piano and Simon says it was predictable and not outstanding.
Syesha Mercado: "If I Ain't Got You" By Alicia Keys
Randy chose this song for Syesha, and I was so not surprised. Of course, she doesn’t stack up to Alicia’s voice, not to mention the pitchiness and cockiness that exudes from her. Paula says it was difficult doing something so identifiable with the original artist.
David Cook: "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack
I was hoping Simon wouldn’t let me down, and baby, he didn’t. This was an unconventional, yet perfect song choice. The way he sang it was hauntingly romantic. It truly takes a master to practically quiet the entire country within the first two notes. Randy wants to hear more rock songs, but Simon says it was one of his best performances to date. Round one goes to Cowell and Cook.
Contestants’ Choice
David Archuleta: "With You" by Chris Brown
You’re not the only one who cringed. It was like Barry Manilow singing the Thong Song. Extremely uncomfortable, spastic, and so white trash karaoke bar. Randy is weirded out by the fact that he’s singing “my boo.” Simon says it was like a Chihuahua trying to be a tiger.
Syesha Mercado: "Fever"
She danced… with a chair. ‘Nuff said. I felt like I was watching a burlesque show in Reno. I need to remind her that not many 20 to 35-year-old boys are voting tonight. Her singing was decent, but with all the flashiness, no one was listening. Paula was surprised she picked this song because it doesn’t show who she is as an artist.
David Cook: "Dare You to Move" by Switchfoot
This sounds more like what David’s album will be like because it’s more rock and contemporary. However, I feel like he chose this song because he liked it, not because he sang it well. It was a bit pitchy. Randy agrees and Paula says there was no beginning, middle and end.
Producers’ Choice
David Archuleta: "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg
How old are the producers?? This is certainly not helping Muppet’s cause. It was so boring, so slow, so insanely mundane. I was like an Olan Mills portrait came to life. He shouldn’t sing a song this old until he’s developed some chest hair. Randy thought it was hot… for some reason. Simon thought it was gooey and sung by a 90-year-old.
Syesha Mercado: "Hit Me Up" by Gia Farrell
Apparently this song is only popular on the Happy Feet soundtrack so I have no idea why they chose it. She looked uncomfortable, then made me uncomfortable with the booty-popping. It was kind of upbeat which helped her a bit, but the singing was just OK. After a discussion if the song was actually about penguins, Paula surprises us all by telling her that it’s not enough to get to the finals. Burn!
David Cook: "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith
I heard this song about 14 million times in the summer of 1998, and when I heard that my boy was singing it I literally cringed. Don’t forget that Josh Gracin countrified this song in season two, so let’s hope David can make it his own as well. He did change it up quite a bit, and I hate to say it, didn’t make me want to puke. But that’s only because I want to lick the TV screen whenever DC is on, so he gets away with everything in my book. Paula said c-ya in the finals and Simon said the night goes to David Cook! The audience gives him a standing ovation, including Paula, and my eye candy looks a bit emotional. I can’t wait until he wins! That’s right… I said it.
Sent packing prediction: Syesha… although, wouldn’t it be awesome if Muppet went home?

This article is one of the worst recaps of American Idol I've ever read on this site. You should just let Justin Guarini do them, who would've thought that the would be more unbiased than you.
It is so frustrating watching this show nowadays the pimping is just outrageous, simon's comments were completely biased and it seems him and the producers wants cook to win and aren't even giving the other contestants a chance, wether it is on the songs they choose for them or their comments.
To make matters worse, Last night I voted for #1 (David Archuleta) and 3 times out of 20-30 votes the response was "thank you for voting for #3" (David Cook). I used redial so wasn't dialing the wrong number. Are votes being hijacked? This must definately be the end of idol, what's the point on voting or even watching this show when it is all rigged....its disgusting.
