It is two weeks since Henry broke up with Betty and moved to Tucson. WTH? They broke up off-screen? Last episode they were determined to make it work. What's going on in the Ugly Betty writers' room? I feel cheated.
Wili makes an awesome, slo-mo return to Mode. The Meades are united against her. Daniel wants a war-themed issue. Wili gets Alexis to agree to do a peace issue instead. She leaks photos of her return to the press that make it look like Daniel is shoving her. Daniel goes on Larry King to tell his side of the story. Daniel loses it and insults Wili on the air. Alexis reinstates Wili as creative director, to Daniel and Claire’s chagrin.
Amanda and her newfound Dad Gene Simmons collaborate on a reality show. Marc metas that he wants to be the funny gay sidekick. He crashes the shoot. Gene loves him and offers him a part. Amanda’s jealous. Gene blows Amanda off when the cameras aren’t running. Amanda notices that Gene’s tweetie tattoo is temporary. He isn’t her father. He was just using her as a premise for his reality show.
At Daniel’s request, Claire asks Betty to write a 300 word article for Hot Flash on the “youth perspective.” 300 words? That’s, like, a recap. Betty should be able to knock it out in a couple hours. Claire gives no further information about what she wants. Welcome to freelancing, Betty! Gio assumes Betty wants him to be her rebound guy. He kisses her. She slaps him.
Coach Cibrian invites Hilda to chaperone the school dance. When Hilda gets sick, Betty decides to fill in and interview kids at the dance for her article. If Betty’s supposed to be this stressed about the article, it should have been 3000 words. This is really bugging me. Anyway, Justin tells the coach that Hilda has a crush on him. Coach brings Hilda soup and asks her out.
Gio turns out to be another chaperone. He dedicates a slow song to Betty. The sexual tension gets to her. She flees. Betty explains she isn’t over Henry. Gio suggests she stop worrying about doing the right thing. Gio persuades Betty to steal her good citizen trophy from 8th grade. She accidentally breaks the case and gets busted by her old principal. Betty asks Gio out. He says no. He doesn’t want to be the rebound guy. He wants to be the guy! Woo! How awesomely John Hughes-esque.
