Monday night I attended the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) bash in honor of this year’s Daytime Emmy Nominees. Armed with my tape recorder, I hit the Red Carpet in search of dish. The stars of all your favorite L.A. based soaps delivered:

The Young & The Restless
Is Jill Really Kay’s Daughter? Jeanne Cooper Gives Us The Scoop On Y&R

The Chancellor estate has been hopping lately. Esther’s back in action. Jeffrey Bardwell has taken up residence while recovering from being poisoned by Gloria. The Young & The Restless’s Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) hints that this is only the start of the action. “I’m going to try to prove that Jill is not my daughter. It’s going to be racy.” Cooper did not reveal whether or not Kay would turn out to be Jill’s mother. She was adamant that Katherine had no designs on Jeffrey. Laughed Cooper, “That bum? He’s probably a quadruplet! He’ll die three times then come back as someone else.”

Kate Linder Celebrates The Return of Esther’s Uniform
Kate Linder (Esther) is delighted that her character has had more to do lately. She also likes the return to her classic wardrobe. “Esther’s back in her uniform, which I think is a good thing.” Kate opened up about the behind-the-scenes goings on at Y&R in the past year. “What I like is that Y&R seems to be getting more back to the basics, the core families.” Linder’s dream storyline is for her character’s long absent daughter, Kate to return to Genoa City. Linder, a Governor of ATAS, is looking forward to presenting the award for Best Children’s Song at the Creative Art Emmys.

Christian LeBlanc And Tracey Bregman: An Award-Winning Pairing
Y&R’s Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin)
has already won the Leading Actor category twice. This year, he’s nominated again, along with his on-screen wife Tracey Bregman, who accompanied him, and brother Greg Rikaart, who couldn’t attend. Bregman shared what scenes she used in her submission reel. “The scenes where I came face-to-face with Sheila for the first time… Then I came home and had a complete meltdown and start tearing up [my baby’s] nursery. The second episode was where I found out that Gloria contaminated the cream. I confront Gloria and then Michael comes home and I confront him.” The modest LeBlanc says of his reel, “Ted Shackelford really made me look good.” Bregman interjects, “They had seven scenes together. Ted [as mute stroke victim William] didn’t say one word.” Le Blanc adds, “But he gave me everything.” LeBlanc hints that Michael’s father’s Lowell “may” be headed for Genoa City soon. Stay tuned.

Nia Peeples: Patrick Dempsey’s Long Lost Love
I asked Nia Peeples (Y&R’s Karen Taylor) about the many other roles she’s played. She revealed that one of her favorite projects was a pilot for NBC called, Odd Jobs . “I played Patrcick Dempsey’s love interest. Her name was Lala Black. When she was in high school she was an overweight gal. But she and Patrick kind of liked each other. Then she grew up and became an assassin. But inside she was really sweet. That show should have been picked up. It was written by Roger Avary who co-wrote Pulp Fiction with Quentin Tarantino. It was smart. It was on the edge.” I agree with Peeples. The show sounds great. Maybe whoever owns the rights will make it available to fancast!

Tammin Sursok Is Spectacular
I asked Tammin Sursok, who is nominated for her performance as Y&R’s Colleen Carlton in the Best Young Actress category, about her Emmy reel. “I submitted the Palm Springs thing.” I was momentarily confused until I realized she meant the storyline involving the explosion in Clear Springs. The Australian beauty clarified, “I submitted the Clear Springs stuff where I had to evoke a little bit of emotion.” The actress just completed shooting Spectacular, an original movie for the Nickelodeon network, that allowed her to showcase her singing abilities. “It’s a musical. Madonna’s choreographer did all the dance sequences. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.”

Thanks Sara! That was illuminating. I hope JC gets her way and Jill isn't her daughter. I miss those knock down I hate you with every fiber of my being fights they used to have.

Kareena:

Thanks Sara,

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Jill really isn't Katherine's daughter. That has to be one of the worst rewrites in soap history.

I love the pics you posted, thanks! In regards to the Jill/Kay storyline, I'm so happy Jeanne won the Emmy this year!
