Inside the Emmys: "For New Shows To Win," Something Has To Happen

madmen1.jpg

In his post on today's Emmy nominations, which were led by 30 Rock and Man Men, St. Petersburg Times TV Critic Eric Deggans points out a fact of TV life: "For new shows to win, some established series had to lose. So Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Heroes and Ugly Betty were shut out of major categories, serving notice that a new crop of quality shows are on Emmy’s radar screen..." In other words, welcome to the new world of TV as cablers like F/X and TNT pushed aside the traditional networks and announced quality shows can be found up and down the entire TV grid. Deggans was miffed that HBO's The Wire received only one nomination, but overall he fared well in terms of his predictions, missing out on Entourage, Boston Legal and Damages. Like many, he expected too much from Grey's. FInd out additional thoughts by reading more of Deggans' Emmy predictions and his insider analysis.
