Recap: Hell's Kitchen

On last night's Hell's Kitchen, Vanessa's hand injury caused her to leave the show. It was supposed to be a dramatic twist, but in terms of drama it hardly compared to other unanticipated reality show departures, including last season's Project Runway and those on Survivor in years past. Chef Ramsay told her to stick it out, that the show was a tremendous opportunity. Alas, she wussed out. And on pizza night! Who leaves when there's pizza? Let's get to the point. Last night's challenge was making pizza. Chef Ramsay had a hard time deciding whose pizza was best, and he gave it to the women. They were rewarded with a fabulous lunch in Santa Barbara (plus a helicopter flight), and the guys were bummed; they had to deliver pizza. Then it was on to the restaurant, and for the first time this season both teams got everyone fed. There were still screw-uups and wimps, namely Louross and Rosann. However, since Chef Ramsay was saved several hours worth of screaming and high blood pressure, and because he was impressed that diners actually dined, he didn't kick anyone off. He let Vanessa's departure serve as a gift to both crews. On to next week. Oh, by the way, Chef Ramsay has a new cook book out, "Fast Food." He makes meals in 15 minutes. You can take 45 and he won't scream at you.
