The Hills (recap)

This show fascinates me on so many levels. First of all, how can so many be famous for doing so little? When I was at MTV there was, believe it or not, criteria for fame and people were very resentful of those who were famous for being famous. Being rich and beautiful wasn’t enough, you also had to have some sort of discernible skill that people would invest their time and money to experience. Donovan Leach (son of 60s legend Donovan) was one such pariah who, although he had a great singing voice and even better contacts, was constantly being lambasted for being the empty headed famous-for-nothing ring leader. If he were reaching late adolescence in this Hills era he would be lauded for his looks and talent that, by comparison, would dwarf any closest competitor in the tween reality circuit.

If you watch The Hills it is remarkable to see how little star Lauren Conrad speaks. Of all the show’s “characters” she is the most natural and goes about her on camera moments with calm and ease, but she does her most honest communicating with her accidentally expressive face. I know a lot of this show is set up, think about it: every time someone goes into a shop or restaurant have you noticed whomever’s helping them already has a microphone on and it’s also been beautifully, painstakingly lit? There was a double thrust on last night’s episode, as Lauren was trying to get something going with Brody, Heidi and Spencer’s engagement was imploding and both women were struggling with vain and difficult men they can’t help but love. Here is my take on Brody, I DOUBT he and Lauren spend any time off camera since the only carrot this jackass will take is precious screen time on one of TVs biggest shows. Brody “Princes of Malibu” Jenner has no desire to live a moment of his life off camera, and although Warren Beatty accused Madonna of that in Truth or Dare her on screen dalliances pale in comparison to this sell out’s.

The highlight of the show was the glimmer of possibility in Audrina’s blossoming relationship with Aussie Corey. I don’t know what it is about the water pumping through the taps of the island continent but they sprout some super sexy boys Down Under. The Wizard of Oz not only swept lipless Miss Partridge off her feet, he dazzled her friends and pulled off the impossible, Lauren loves him! There is no more destructive force in a friendship than a boy who’s despised by a best friend, and both BFFs have learned it’s better for Lauren to shut up and stop controlling her friends, and Audrina is better served by dating someone halfway human who can join the girls on double dates if Lauren ever lowers her standards to find a boy in Los Angeles.

The Hills: Tonight's Finale

conrad.jpg

Like everyone else, we're hyperventilating in anticipation for tonight's finale of The Hills on which Lauren Conrad is expected to make a life-changing decision. We don't think she's going to give up her future in fashion to enlist in the military or offer her eggs to a needy couple. No, we think it has something to do with going to Paris. Some speculate she might make amends with ex bff Heidi. All we know for shizzle is that LC told People last week that she's very happy with the decision she made. We'll see...In the meantime, we're going to spend the next few hours dieting and driving around Malibu in search of Brody Jenner.

The Hills Finale (recap)

thehills2.jpg

by Kennedy, host of Reality Remix

Lisa asked perfect Whitney to go to Paris, once again leaving LC to sit in her pumpkin carriage waiting for midnight. Just when you think Lauren has given up the ghost, her mistakes with Jason come back to bite her and remind her of all she’s lost. She’s not going to Paris, she can’t get anything going with boring Brody, and to boot she lost her best friend to an albino ape.

Speaking of Spencer, he admitted his regret in walking out last week to his evil sister who betrayed Heidi and got the whole thing going in the first place. Do you think she’s in love with her brother and wants to marry him herself? I wouldn’t put it past her. Heidi was having none of the reconciliation and had co-worker Kimberly lie to Spencer and say she left early when he showed up at work to patch things up. Eventually the two settled in the same room but not before Heidi dropped this season ending bombshell: She’s going to stay with her mom because she now needs space. Is the wedding off??! Will reality’s most unlikable love birds flee their nest and fly off into separate sunsets? (I know that’s impossible, more like fly off in different directions).

In the end Lisa became the fairy godmother and granted LC what she’s always wanted, a free trip to Paris so she can relive another unfulfilling Cinderella fantasy in a new language. Whitney and Lauren can now move about the continent spreading the good will of Teen Vogue and hopefully score heaps of free cloths and phone numbers of princes and moguls who might temporarily make them feel like princesses. Careful ladies, they still have pumpkins in Paris.

Fancast News: Heidi Montag's Sexy Music Video

heidi.jpg

There is probably a graph to the fleeting nature of pop fame. It starts with a TV series, blows up with a romance, and jumps the shark with a music video. Hedi Montag has a music video for the single "Higher" (see it on the jump). You decide. Then we suggest watching episodes of The Hills on Fancast.

Fancast Video: The Hills Rolling Stone Cover Shoot

Blog-The-Hills-Rolling-Stone.jpg

Go behind the scenes of The Hills' awkward Rolling Stone cover shoot, in which feuding stars Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad made cute for the camera, but not in real life. According to Montag: "I don't think the four of us have been in a room together in over two years, Lauren and I didn't say one word to each other."
